Japanese Matcha Bowl Hinode

Japanese Matcha Bowl Hinode – A Quiet Moment for Matcha

Preparing matcha is about more than simply making a cup of tea. The bowl, the whisk and the small ritual of preparation are all part of the experience – and the Japanese Matcha Bowl Hinode provides a beautiful setting for it.

Hinode means “sunrise” in Japanese, a fitting name for the bowl’s delicate pale blue-green glaze. Its fresh, tranquil colouring recalls the soft light of an early morning and gives the bowl an understated elegance that allows the brilliant green of freshly prepared matcha to take centre stage.

Traditionally known as a chawan, a matcha bowl is shaped differently from an ordinary tea cup. Hinode’s broad opening provides room to move a bamboo whisk freely, helping you whisk your matcha into a smooth drink with its characteristic fine froth. Its rounded form also sits comfortably between the hands when drinking directly from the bowl.

Made in Japan, Hinode combines traditional function with a simple contemporary appearance, making it equally appealing to someone discovering matcha for the first time and to an experienced matcha drinker looking for a beautiful everyday bowl.

Pair it with a bamboo matcha whisk (chasen) and bamboo matcha scoop (chashaku) to create your own matcha preparation set.

And when the tea is finished, its soft colour and simple shape mean Hinode is attractive enough to leave on display rather than disappearing into the cupboard.
