Brewing Guide – Traditional Usucha Style (Thin Tea)

What you’ll need:

• 1 bamboo scoop (chashaku) or 1–2 grams of matcha

• 70–100 ml of water at 75–80°C

• Bamboo whisk (chasen)

• Pre-warmed matcha bowl (chawan)

How to prepare:

1. Sift the matcha into your bowl to remove any clumps.

2. Add a splash of warm water and whisk gently to make a smooth paste.

3. Pour in the remaining water.

4. Whisk briskly in a ‘W’ motion until a fine froth forms on the surface.

5. Sip, savour, and enjoy.

Tip: For lattes, prepare as above and top with frothed milk (dairy or plant-based). Add a touch of honey or syrup if you like a sweeter cup.
