Introducing the Tea Net Filter: The Traditional Method of Infusing Tea
A Tea Net Filter, also known as a tea sock, is a classic approach to making tea or infusions. Crafted from unbleached cotton, it resembles a sock and comes with a coated metal holder.
To use, simply hang the Tea Net Filter on the rim of a small to medium-sized teapot or mug. Fill it with your desired tea leaves or herbs and pour hot water over them, just as you would with any other method.
Once the tea or infusion has steeped for the desired amount of time, lift the Tea Net by the handle, giving it a gentle squeeze if necessary, and set it aside. For added convenience and to prevent any burnt fingers, we recommend our teabag squeezer, which greatly assists with this process.
So, what are the benefits of using a Tea Net Filter?
Many individuals prefer a Tea Net over metal strainers due to its various advantages. It allows you to savour the full taste of tea without generating unnecessary waste from teabags. However, it should be noted that the Tea Net may develop a brownish hue over time, which is perfectly normal and nothing to be concerned about.
Cleaning the Tea Net is a breeze. Simply rinse it under hot water, give it a gentle squeeze or wring, and allow it to dry. If you need to wash it more thoroughly, rinse it multiple times with water to remove any traces of detergent.
As a handy tip, my mother used to dip it in a fresh bowl of water with dishwasher detergent, followed by a thorough rinse with hot water (which conveniently filled up the sink for washing dishes). Afterwards, she would hang it on a hook over the sink to dry.
The Tea Net has a diameter of 9 cm and can be used for approximately 4 cups of tea at a time. This makes it suitable for teapots of up to 1 litre or 2 pints in size.
