Among the rolling highlands of Tigania, near majestic Mount Kenya, grows one of the world’s most extraordinary teas – Kenyan Purple Tea Michimikuru. Cultivated at altitudes between 1,700 and 2,000 metres, this exceptional Kenyan purple tea comes from a rare cultivar that traces its roots to Yunnan, China.
Unlike ordinary green or black teas, Kenyan purple tea owes its striking lilac hue to anthocyanins – natural plant pigments also found in blueberries and raspberries. These give both its leaves and infusion their distinctive colour and antioxidant richness.
Once brewed, the tea reveals a shimmering, soft-purple liquor with a smooth, fruity flavour reminiscent of ripe plums and red berries. It’s a refreshing, gently sweet infusion that captures the pure air and bright sunlight of the Kenyan hills. Add a few drops of lemon juice, and you’ll witness a magical transformation – the colour turns into a brilliant pink before your eyes.
Kenyan purple tea Michimikuru is not only beautiful and unique but also naturally high in antioxidants, making it a wonderful daily choice for anyone who loves the artistry of tea.
Brewing suggestion:
Use 4–5 teaspoons of tea per litre of water. Brew for 2–4 minutes at 90–95 °C. Enjoy plain or with a few drops of lemon juice for a vibrant colour change.
