Greek Mountain Tea BIO* – a miracle in a cup
The Sideritis Syriaca plant, also known as ironwort, mountain tea or shepherd’s tea, is widespread in the Mediterranean region. Its use as herbal medicine, usually in the form of a herbal infusion, is well known and said to be helpful with many medical issues.
As the name suggests, Greek Mountain Tea is very popular in Greece, Bulgaria, Macedonia and Albania. The stems, leaves and flowers are often boiled in a pot of water, then strained and served with honey, lemon, or both.
Greek Mountain Tea or Ironwort is traditionally used to help with digestion. It is also said to strengthen the immune system and prevent colds, flu, and other viruses.
Ironwort has been scientifically proven to be antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and anti-oxidant. Scientists also discovered that it could help prevent colds, flu, and allergies.
Greek Mountain Herbs are also being tested in Alzheimer’s research at the moment. So far, they have found that they help support memory function.
The Greek Mountain Herbs also have a mood-uplifting effect, which is better than St. John’s Wort and might help if you suffer from anxiety.
How to prepare:
Traditionally, you would put 1 1/2 cups of water and 1-2 tablespoons full of the herbs in a pan, heat it and let it boil for 4-5 minutes. Then strain it and serve it with honey and a bit of lemon.
