What is white tea made from?
The “white” refers to the fine hairs of the open buds, which give the plants a whitish appearance. Although there is no general definition, white tea is dried and does not undergo further processing. Sometimes, only the buds and immature tea leaves are used, but other tea producers take the buds and very young leaves that have been steamed or fired before drying.
What are the benefits?
Because the leaves are not heavily processed, they maintain most of the antioxidants compared to other teas.
How long should white tea steep for?
You mustn’t use boiling water for your tea. This will result in bitter tea that does not taste nice. The best temperature is around 70°C. So either you boil the water and let it cool down, or you stop cooking it when it just starts to boil.
To be 100% sure, use a tea thermometer to check the temperature. Usually, you steep your tea for 1-3 minutes, but as you can steep it several times, 7 to 10 minutes is also okay. Start with the short steeping time and work your way up to find the length of steeping time that will give you the preferred taste result.
